Join a values-led organisation making a real difference in Glasgow

Talbot Association Ltd has been supporting people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage in Glasgow for many years. We provide safe accommodation, care and support to people who may be affected by trauma, mental health challenges, substance use, poverty, social exclusion or other complex life experiences.

We are now looking for compassionate, reliable and motivated Support Practitioners to join our team.

This is a rewarding role for someone who wants to make a positive difference in people’s lives, helping individuals feel safe, respected, included and supported to move forward at their own pace.

About the role

As a Support Practitioner, you will provide high-quality, person-centred care and support within a safe, welcoming and enabling environment. You will work alongside colleagues to promote dignity, choice, rights, independence and wellbeing for the people we support.

Your role will include supporting people with daily living, emotional wellbeing, personal development, social inclusion, care planning and access to community opportunities. You will also contribute to a positive, trauma-informed culture where people feel listened to, valued and understood.

The role is aligned with Talbot Association policies and procedures, the SSSC Codes of Practice, the Care Inspectorate Quality Framework, and relevant Scottish legislation and standards.

What you will do

You will:

  • Build positive, professional and trusting relationships with the people we  support.
  • Promote  dignity, respect, choice, rights and independence.
  • Support individuals to achieve personal outcomes identified in their support plans.
  • Provide practical, emotional and personal care support where required.
  • Contribute  to care planning, reviews and safety planning.
  • Support  people to access community, education, employment, social and wellbeing  opportunities.
  • Use  trauma-informed and positive approaches when supporting people through      distress or challenging situations.
  • Maintain  accurate, timely and person-centred records.
  • Work  closely with colleagues, families, external agencies and professionals.
  • Participate   in supervision, training, appraisal and continuous professional  development.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Kind,  patient, empathetic and non-judgemental.
  • Reliable, professional and accountable.
  • Calm  under pressure and emotionally resilient.
  • Flexible, adaptable and solution-focused.
  • Able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Committed to person-centred, rights-based and trauma-informed practice.
  • Willing to learn, reflect and develop in the role.

Experience in health, social care, supported accommodation, homelessness, mental health or substance use services would be helpful, but your values, attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.

Qualifications and registration

You must hold, be working towards, or be willing to achieve a qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council, such as SVQ Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 6, or an equivalent accepted qualification.

All staff are required to register with the SSSC and work in line with the SSSC Codes of Practice.
