Direct Access Hostel

Tel: 0141-418-1955

Capacity: 61

Kingston Halls was established as an accommodation and care unit in 1975. It has three floors, a large open space dining area, enclosed garden and capacity for an activities area. The unit is set across the Clyde in the Kingston area next to Springfield Quay in Glasgow, with its entertainment and leisure facilities nearby. Kingston is a short 20 minute walk to the city centre.

The Halls provide emergency, 24-hour direct-access accommodation for individuals experiencing crisis homelessness. With over forty years of experience, the service offers immediate safety, support, and stabilisation for those facing acute housing need.

Individuals are welcomed at any time of day or night and are provided with nutritious meals, access to laundry and cleaning services, and essential items such as clothing and toiletries.

The service adopts a trauma-informed and person-centred approach to care and support, recognising the impact of adversity, substance use, and complex life circumstances.

Initial holistic assessments focus on urgent health, housing, and wellbeing needs. Staff work proactively to de-escalate distress, manage safety, and engage individuals in early planning towards recovery and stability.

Serving a highly diverse group of people, Kingston Halls responds flexibly to a wide spectrum of needs. Staff collaborate closely with external partners such as Glasgow City Council, HSCP, Addiction Services and the Care Inspectorate to support pathways to longer-term accommodation and sustained recovery.

Capacity: 12 places

Riverside opened in 1992 and is a modern, purpose-built specialised residential care service for adults experiencing homelessness, who are living with severe and enduring mental health conditions, often alongside substance use. It is located about two miles from Glasgow city centre in Govan and nestled within the local community. It also benefits from the recently opened Govan to Partick bridge, linking Govan with the West End.

The unit provides a small, safe, therapeutic environment where people we support are assisted in developing life skills and independence through collaborative, trauma-informed care planning and regular review. Staff work closely with community psychiatric nurses, psychologists, GPs, and social work professionals to ensure that care is holistic and responsive.

Beyond holistic health support, the people we support are encouraged to engage in purposeful activity, community reconnection, and skill-building to improve confidence and autonomy. The service prioritises relationship-based practice and long-term recovery within a stable, supportive health and social care environment.

Buchanan Lodge

Dalhousie Street

Dalhousie Street

Tel: 0141-634-3536

Capacity: 40 places

Buchanan Lodge was opened in 2000. This unit is set in beautiful grounds and comprises two floors of single en-suite rooms, a large entertainment area, cosy dining area and welcoming open reception area.

The Lodge provides long-term residential care for older adults with lived experience of chronic homelessness and associated health challenges, including long-standing alcohol use and complex trauma.

The care model is rooted in dignity, choice, and continuity. Each person supported is assisted by a key worker and an individualised person-centred care plan is co-developed through consultation with each person, regular reviews and a multi-disciplinary input.

Health care and emotional wellbeing are the key priorities in this unit as some people have significant medical conditions and disability. Staff work closely with local NHS and third-sector partners to ensure a comprehensive care planning and a whole person-centred approach. Most people residing in the lodge have limited social networks, so the service also promotes connection, belonging, and meaningful activities to help reduce isolation.
